THEORETICAL ORIENTATION & THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

Since 1993, I have guided individuals to help them discover their own gold.

Professional Interests

I hold my PhD in Clinical Psychology with a Depth Psychology emphasis and I have a special interest in transpersonal and depth psychology, as well as psychodynamic, psychoanalytic and humanistic therapies, expressive arts therapies, and ecotherapy. I also conduct research on extraordinary human experiences, including spiritual emergence, the numinous, the transpersonal, extreme and/or peak experiences, often labelled as “psychosis”, “schizophrenia”, “dissociative identity”, etc., by the biomedical model, and have a personal investment in the Consumer/Survivor/Ex-patient (C/S/X) Movement (please see my presentations and research at Presentations & Research). I am on the Executive Committee of the International Society for the Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis US Chapter (ISPS-US), the Founder and experienced group facilitator of the Wildflowers' Movement, as well as an educator, artist, and advocate/activist for psychiatric survivors. I have particular expertise working with clients of all ages, especially with those experiencing non-ordinary states of consciousness, as mentioned above, that are often seen as “seriously mentally ill” by the biomedical model. I have extensive experience helping people in despair, including trauma, depression, anxiety issues, personal growth and transformation, sexuality, LGBTQIA concerns, and those undergoing life transitions, including emerging adults, college students, expecting and new parents, etc. I facilitate Mommy, Daddy, and Me groups for new parents and offer psychoeducational consulting sessions for new parents.

As a coach and consultant, I help those undergoing a “breakdown”, often seen as a “breakthrough”, and guide them through their process with patience and compassion. I help families understand the necessary support needed in order to help their family member in a crisis situation.

Theoretical Orientation & Therapeutic Approach

I have a humanistic, holistic, and depth psychology orientation. I use the term “depth emergence” to explain my orientation and approach. Depth Emergence seeks to bring the unconscious into awareness in order to understand, evolve, and transform. My integrative therapy approach draws upon depth psychology, psychodynamic psychoanalytic psychotherapy, mindfulness, and humanistic therapy. Depth Psychology emphasizes the study of the individuation process - the achievement of becoming a whole Self by integrating the conscious and the unconscious. Depending on individual needs, we may also include other therapies.

While considering the whole person- heart, soul, mind and body, I have faith in you, the individual, trusting that you come to me already having the insight you need. While I use various strategies, an individualized approach is always needed, as each client, couple, and/or family, has unique concerns. I often use the expressive arts and ecotherapy to enhance the process. I am compassionate and sincere, and have the intuition to guide you through your own process.

Ecotherapy & Expressive Arts

Ecotherapy and expressive arts are two modalities I use to enhance the depth emergence process. Ecotherapy enables us to experience the healing power of nature. Expressive arts therapies include, but are not limited to: writing, poetry, mixed media art pieces, drawing, painting, music, drumming, drama, dancing, etc.

I use the expressive arts in group settings, as well as in one-on-one with children, transitional age youth, and adults. I believe that imagination is the healing agent inherent to all forms of self-expression.

Personal Philosophy

I am committed to providing the highest quality therapy, coaching, and consulting services to you, the client/service user. I accept clients without regard to race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. I have particular compassion for all Consumers/Survivors/Ex-patients (C/S/X). I greet every new client with kindness, compassion and open mindedness.

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
